Product Infomation

DESCRIPTION
A stable, water-based bitumen emulsion that is dark brown in colour and dries to a black coating. Odour and taint-free.

RECOMMENDED USE
Water Dampening
When applied to specified thickness, NipoKote Grade 5S Bitumen Emulsion is suitable for general water dampening use in a concealed system.

Sound Dampening
NipoKote Grade 5S Bitumen Emulsion also demonstrates some property of sound/vibration deadening.

Other Areas of Use
Asphalt Concrete : NipoKote Grade 5S Bitumen Emulsion can be added into cement for Planter Boxes, Concrete Water Tanks (non-potable water), Wet Areas, Basements, Retaining Walls, Foundation Walls and Lift Pits.
Adhesion : The bitumen bonding property ensures good adhesion to substrate when applied; at least one of the substrate must be porous in order to achieve a good cure.

APPLICATION
Surface Preparation
Ensure surface is clean from dust, oil, rust, grease, loose materials, moss etc.
Surface should be dry for homogeneous material quality.
New concrete must be cured for at least 28 days.
Treat all expansion joints, pipe joints and down pipes with NipoSeal Bitu Sealing Compound.

Priming
Apply NipoPrime in a continuous application. Allow primer to dry
Where substrate is old and porous, prime twice. Required Drying Time : 1 to 2 hours
Required Curing Time : 24 hours

Body Coats
Mix emulsion well before use.
Apply a minimum of 4 coats by brush or spray. Do NOT dilute.
NipoKote Grade 5S Bitumen Emulsion may be applied to a damp surface although a dry substrate will yield a better result.
Allow 24 hours between coats and apply each coat at right angle to the previous coat for maximum durability and flexibility.
The coating can be reinforced with GLASSFIBRE NETTING
Both coatings and surface must be able to dry before the emulsion will cure to a waterproof bituminous film.
Protect from rain and frost until cured.

Top Coat
Apply a final top coat of NipoPruf Bituminous Elastomeric for best results.

Notes on Application
Always protect applied materials from rain and frost until cured. Materials will be washed off when not fully cured.
Protect membrane from Puncture/Tear/Rain before/during any Backfill/Screed.
Drying and Curing Time indicated herewith is dependent on temperature and humidity.
Estimates are provided.
PLEASE APPLY EACH COAT THINLY. THICK COAT EXCEEDING 750 MICRON WILL INCREASE DRYING TIME BY SEVERAL DAYS.
FOLLOW-ON

Screeding (Optional)
Follow-on screed must be at least 50 mm thick to ensure good bonding to material. Where necessary, apply a diluted coat of NipoKote Grade 5S Bitumen Emulsion and broadcast sand prior to screeding.
Drainage : Follow good drainage practice by creating a slope to drain a minimum of 10mm per running metre.

COVERAGE
Liquid Application : Approximately 0.8 to 1.0 kg/m2 per coat

PACKING
NipoKote Grade 5S Bitumen Emulsion comes in 20L pail and 200L drum.

Actual Measurement may vary due to the condition of the substrate. This information is only a guide.
